Provincial Nominee Program

This program is for workers who:

  • have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory
  • want to live in that province
  • want to become permanent residents of Canada
LMIA APPLICATION

A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker.
A positive LMIA will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do the job. A positive LMIA is sometimes called a confirmation letter.

STUDY/WORK PERMIT

The study permit is a document we issue that allows foreign nationals to study at designated learning institutions (DLI) in Canada. Most foreign nationals need a study permit to study in Canada. Make sure you have all the documents you need before you apply. You should apply before you travel to Canada.

There are types of work permits open and closed.

  • Closed Work Permit: An employer-specific work permit lets you work in Canada according to the conditions on your work permit, such as: the name of the specific employer you can work for, how long you can work, the location where you can work
  • Open Work Permit: An open work permit lets you work for any employer in Canada, except for one that: is listed as ineligible on the list of employers who have failed to comply with the conditions
FAMILY/SPOUSAL SPONSORSHIP

You can sponsor your spouse, partner or dependent child if:

  • You’re at least 18 years old
  • You’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
  • You’re able to prove that you’re not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability
  • you can provide for the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor
BUSINESS INVESTORS

Canada welcomes successful business people who are seeking new opportunities and challenges. The Business Immigration Program is designed to encourage and facilitate the admission of these individuals. Both the federal and provincial/territorial governments welcome business immigrants and offer services to help immigrants start a business and settle in Canada.

VISITOR/SUPER VISA
  • A visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa) is an official document that shows that you meet the requirements needed to enter Canada. Most visitors on Visitor visa could stay in Canada upto 6 months.
  • A super visa lets you visit your children or grandchildren for up to 2 years at a time. It’s a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years.
CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION

To be eligible to become a Canadian citizen, you must:

  • be a permanent resident
  • have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years
  • have filed your taxes, if you need to
  • pass a test on your rights, responsibilities and knowledge of Canada
  • prove your language skills
TEMPORARY WORK PERMIT
This program is for workers who:
